Lake LBJ is a constant-level lake — the dams at either end hold it within a few inches all year, which is why the Highland Lakes have docks and the rest of Texas has mudflats by August. Rent a boat, swim off it, or paddle up into the granite coves. The water is clear and green and the hills come down to it.
