   The gondola leaves from the edge of town and climbs to Peak 8, one of five numbered peaks the resort spreads across. The Imperial Express chair above it tops out at 12,840 feet — the highest lift in North America — on terrain you have to hike the last of. In summer Peak 8 is an alpine coaster and a chairlift full of mountain bikes, and the view down the Tenmile Range is the same either way.
