   Lincoln gave the House Divided speech in this hall in 1858, argued cases in it as a lawyer, and lay in state in it after Ford's Theatre; Obama announced his candidacy on the steps outside in 2007. The working capitol is six blocks west and is the tallest non-skyscraper statehouse in the country — taller than the one in Washington.
